Pour yourself a glass of wine and climb the stairs to the roof terrace of your dreams. Set across the top three floors of a typical period building, you'll find this enchanting home in one of Marseilles' famous narrow streets, just a stroll from the old port. There's a lot to love about this place but we'll start with its most impressive feature – a 645sq ft rooftop space for cooking, relaxing and entertaining. With views across the terracotta rooftops to the sea and La Major Cathedral, it's equipped with a summer kitchen with barbecue and pizza oven, and surrounded by pots of Provencal plants and scented flowers. It's a traditional outside space with views that haven't changed for a century or so, but that's where the old ends and the new steps in. The interior of this apartment is sleek, modern and minimal. A symphony of white walls and warm wood floors, character comes in the form of its original curved staircase and the contemporary floating staircase that rises from the dining space. There's an industrial touch from the metal shelving and safety railings in the living room, along with the gun-metal floor in the well-equipped kitchen. The Panier district is the historic heart of the city, with all sorts of shops, bars and restaurants nearby.

*This home is on the second, third and fourth floor of a building with no lift – so it comes with plenty of stairs
*In the second bedroom, the double bed can be separated into two single beds – please let the host know when booking
*A cot and changing table are provided
*There's excellent workspace here – you'll find a a workstation equipped with a PC and four screens
*There's no allocated parking here but you may find on-street parking nearby and the host can recommend paid parking in the area
*Although children are welcome, please note the open stairs – they'll need to take great care
