A disappointing start.. After a long drive we arrived but no key left in the agreed location. After ringing the owner we had to wait 20 minutes for the cleaner to arrive to let us in. We then discovered the property hadn't been cleaned so we had to wait a further 45 minutes for this to be undertaken. Very surprising given Covid considerations!
The remainder of our stay went as planned. The cottage is an in an ideal location and well equipped.

Rosskeen is a lovely home in the gorgeous town of Tideswell.. The location is excellent for exploring the Peak District. The house itself is clean and tidy. The kitchen was well stocked with all the right things you need for a week away.

Great cottage in a lovely location.. Very well equipped with excellent wifi. Three roomy bedrooms and a cosy lounge. Kitchen has all you would need and the cottage is clean and well kept. The first floor double bed is a little hard but the attic bedroom is lovely and comfortable and surprisingly warm in winter. There was an issue with the television which was not a big deal for us at all but the owners insisted on replacing the TV and even sending an engineer when the new installation didn't work. Would definitely recommend.

We booked Rosskeen for 1 month and sadly it did not meet expectations in cleanliness and comfort.. The lounge was small and not homely with a sofa which did not support your back and a TV which was out of date many years ago. The DVD player did not work either.
The carpet in the hallway was filthy and my wife scrubbed it and it is now cleaner than when we arrived. Many cobwebs in the house, left a few for the cleaner behind the curtain near the back door.
Cost £1969 and not worth it.
No issues with Tideswell a very pretty village.
*****OWNER RESPONSE*****
We are very sorry to hear these comments about our cottage. We were aware you were staying for 27 nights and invited you to contact us with any issues or questions. We therefore feel saddened that you didn't contact us at all while you were in the cottage. The cottage is extremely well equipped and, as we regularly stay there ourselves, we feel able to say from experience how it may work for guests. We did offer a cleaner for the house during your stay but this offer was declined: we did however provide you with fresh sheets so that you could change the beds if you so wished. It is expected that after one month in any property cobwebs will appear, this is natural. It is interesting to note we actually stayed in
the cottage the week before you arrived and also stayed for the weekend after you left and so feel very well equipped to comment that the cottage was extremely clean. In relation to the other points you raise; we tested the DVD player: the switch was turned off at the plug on the extension lead and just needed to be turned on. The TV has a good picture and a Talk Talk box has been installed so that digital freeview channels can be viewed: This area of Derbyshire was one of the last to have the analogue signal switched off. We were surprised by your comments in relation to the lounge. It is a typical Derbyshire stone cottage which features a cosy lounge. We have ensured however that there is seating for six people. The sofas all have proper backs and you may not have noticed but the black sofa is a recent addition to the cottage (and is different from the small brown sofa pictured on the website and much more comfortable). The second sofa nearer the window is also comfortable and can in fact be made into a chaise longue with the addition of the footstool which adds a new dimension if so needed. The bedrooms are very spacious and the kitchen diner is a nice size. We have had many highly positive and lovely reviews with repeat bookings and therefore felt the need to respond particularly due to your insistence that your comments were published. However it has saddened us that you chose to air these views so publicly without giving us any opportunity to help you during your stay. *****

Good place to stay, nicely maintained.. Just one thing that the bathroom door lock was not working - so basically you can't lock the door from inside.

Very good stay for the 6 of us, just parked outside with our two cars, no problems.. Front wall needs some attention, leaning towards road.

The cottage is ideally located, near to pubs and shops.. Lovely walks from the door. Cosy and comfortable. We were very pleased by the response from the owner - and from Sykes - when we had to unexpectedly stay an extra night due to heavy snow. I would stay here again and recommend to friends.

Rosskeen was a comfortable and relaxing house to return to after our walks and excursions, and to spend time in when we stayed in. We would definitely stay there again when we return to the Peak District.

Beautiful cottage in the heart of the village, no shortage of anything , it was well stocked, very clean and well looked after. Cottage was only a short stroll to the pubs, shops and cafes, good walks were on the door step. Loved it! Tideswell is close to Buxton and Bakewell which gave us an opportunity to explore.

We loved the cottage. It was clean, warm and very nicely 'done'. It suited our needs (6 on a 'girls' weekend') perfectly. It's really well situated for walks from the door and visiting Chatsworth. I would definitely return - next week if I could!

Rosskeen was a terrific, spacious yet cosy, immaculately clean, beautifully decorated, well-furnished holiday cottage very near the centre of Tideswell. The cottage had everything we needed, including a beautiful bathroom and large eat-in kitchen, three spacious bedrooms, and a cosy lounge. The owners had thought of everything and there was information galore on the cottage, the village and things to do in the area. Parking was no problem, either on the roadside outside the cottage or in the market square (no charge) a few feet from the cottage. Three pubs all serving food within a couple of minutes walk, as was Tideswell's beautiful Cathedral. We were lucky with terrific fresh spring weather and Rosskeen was a lovely, easy base from which to explore the beautiful Peak District countryside and to return to in the evenings.

The village of Tideswell made a ideal base for a holiday with local shops and three pubs in the village, and great walks from the front door. The cottage was very well equipped for six adults, with plenty of room for everyone. Very comfortable stay.

The house was very well equipped and furnished - we felt like we were staying in someone's home rather than a holiday let. The location of the house in Tideswell was ideal as there were spectacular walks from the doorstep and good shops in the village. We didn't use our car at all!
