Red Chimneys Cottage in Skye, The Highlands

This is our 4th visit to Red Chimneys and we feel like we're at home the moment we walk in.. We have used Sykes cottages for over 10 years and with 1 exception have always been happy with the cottage and location

It was situated in the most amazing place.. The scenery was stunning. The cottage was very warm and cosy. Our dog loved it. We felt very at home. Away from all the madness.

Absolutely lovely holiday.. Beautiful cottage in fantastic remote location. All mod cons in the cottage. Superb break could not recommend more.

Beautiful little house, warm, good facilities in a stunning location.. If your lucky you may catch a pod of dolphins from the kitchen window while eating your breakfast. On a clear night you could see the Milky Way. It quite with amazing views and ideal for a relaxing get away but take plenty supplies as it’s a long way to the nearest shop. We had to think twice about leaving

Lovely cottage in a beautiful location.. Very comfy and cosy with good facilities. Only one minor complaint, that being the cooker. I don't think that the fan oven is working properly but that didn't detract from what was a very enjoyable holiday.

Stunning cottage in a stunning location..

Very warm, cosy cottage with lovely views over the loch.. Excellent idea having logs for sale at the cottage as sourcing can be a chore. Perfect location for walking and sight seeing. Be prepared for very narrow roads to cottage and nearest, very good shop is 2 miles away in Glendale.

We are sad to say we're now at home writing this review. The Red Chimneys Cottage is a beautifully thought out cottage, with everything you could possibly need. The underfloor heating is fabulous downstairs and the wood burner upstairs keeps the whole cottage cosy. The kitchen is so well equipped, it's like home from home. The views are spectacular from the cottage. We didn't see much wildlife around the cottage, as it was mostly dark when we were there. But the island has so much to offer when exploring. We wrote our sightings in the thoughtful wildlife book that is there for guests to write what they've seen. The cottage is remote, so be prepared to drive to places if you're out on an adventure. The roads are narrow and a bit tricky at times. Ian loved them with his land rover to play with on them. Thank you to Fiona and Mark for providing such a great bolt hole.

We couldn't have asked for a better equipped place to make our home from for a week.. The underfloor heating downstairs is fantastic and the log burner is great to get all cosy in front of. With fabulous views and total peace and quiet, we couldn't have picked better. Highly recommended for couples.

The cottage is in a lovely area for hiking and scenery.. Very warm and comfortable. Only downside for us was no clothes hanging space in the upstairs bedroom. Even door top mounted hooks would suffice. Still, it is a great place to unwind.

We had a wonderful Christmas stay at Red Chimneys cottage.. Beautiful cottage with breath taking sea views during day and night, Perfect for family and dog with enclosed garden/field. Very comfortable and warm with underground heating. Almost too warm with stove on but a good complaint. Lovely big bath as well as shower facilities to ease bones after long day of travel and walks. A wonderful remote get away. Lovely for walks around location and Neist point lighthouse a must see which is short drive away. Nearest store open in winter is Glendale over rocky road through scenic moors. Petrol station and shop in Dunvegan. Nearest big town with co ops in Portree about 40 minutes away. Old man of Storr is another must walk/hike near Portree. Isles Inn and Portree hotel allow dogs in bar area. If take Ferry over from Mallaig be sure to book in advance. Our directions took us this way and we were lucky to get on last boat for the day due to cancellation. Can drive around over bridge to Isle of Skye 2hrs away and we took this route on way back. Both routes through stunning highland views. WiFi good and TV too if need. Good collection of books provided and even a guitar. All the comforts are provided for a most relaxing stay any time of year. Highly recommend for a wonderful memorable get away from it all relaxing experience. Miss looking out at the panoramic see views from cottage already. NB. A correction needed in directions from Skye cottage confirmation. Directions note when enter Dunvegan from Portree to take a right to Glendale but should say take a sharp left when enter Dunvegan and then right beyond petrol station. There was another left before Dunvegan as well to Glendale. Important to review written directions getting to cottage for first time especially when dark or download offline app as phone goes out of service in some parts en route if rely on mobile maps.

We visit Skye twice a year and have found a second home at Red Chimneys! All the best views on your doorstep. Looking across Dunvegan Lock the Sun rise above the Cullins on the left and Coral Beach to the Right. Seals Otters Deer and Peregrine Falcons all seen from the Garden! Underfloor heating and a wood burner kept us cosy and warm in November. Well equipped kitchen for self catering and Three Chimneys restaurant just down the road for a special night out. Large contained garden for our two Beagles to explore. Trouble free relaxation in the most beautiful peaceful location we have found to date. We got home and booked again, the next available date, in January. Perfect

Perfect Cottage.. Great location with the best views on the doorstep. Enclosed garden for the dogs. Underfloor heating and a wood burner. Cosy comfortable seating in the lounge and a kitchen with everything you need. We will be back next spring.

We loved the area.. The cottage is perfectly positioned. Fabulous views out to sea and the walk down to the beach is easy to find, where the seals come in quite close to stare you out. Very peaceful and relaxing holiday.

This cottage is in the most idyllic place, the scenery out the front is just stunning.. There is just so much to see on Skye, one visit is just not enough! Recommend a boat trip on Spindrifter, George and Neil were just fantastic, we saw sea eagles, seals and a pod of dolphins which stayed with the boat for the best part of 30 minutes. Magic. Flora MacDonald's memorial is another must see and the museum there is fascinating. Dunvegan too, the list goes on!

Second visit to tbis Skye cottage.. Very discusted that I had to spend first hour clearing up the garden after several other 4 legged occupants! I know the garden is overgrown but it's no excuse. I even followed the dogs out with a torch to ensure it was clean for the next visitors. As I didn't want others to have the same experience. We could have left a few hours after arriving due to this and the state of the potholed roads. It was a long journey and the weather was really wet and cold not like our previous stay. We purservered and stuck it out and thankfully things did improve. A bit of tlc and this place will be a great again. A new suite in the lounge and better seating is called for. Best day was Thursday when we saw an otter on the shore of Loch Dunvegan. Saturday when we left was gorgeous weather as if to say come back soon. The roads need desperately looking at and then we would maybe be prepared tp stay again.

Cottage needs some refurbishment as nearly all the dinner plates were chipped and the tumblers were not nice to drink from.. Window sills and ornaments on them were very dusty. Other than that not a bad cottage which was very cosy with the underfloor heating. I think people need to realise how remote this place is.

Very warm, welcoming cottage.. Fantastic location. Our only recommendation is a very minor detail. We were a party of four adults and we like to self cater and consequently ran out of cutlery. We would have no problem recommending this holiday to anyone else. Skye is the most beautiful island with lots to do and see.

We really enjoyed our stay in this comfortable cottage with excellent views.. We would definitely consider re-booking, if we visit Skye again.

Amazing well equipped cottage, stunning views an ideal place for total peace and quiet.. Under floor heating kept us all toasty warm. We took plenty of provisions which was needed as we we’re quite isolated although the little village shop is well stocked. Saw lots of wild life and the log burner kept us warm in the evenings

The cottage is beautiful, we took extra warm clothes and extra bedding because we were staying in January but we needn't have worried the cottage is very warm and all needs are catered for..

The cottage was great clean and tidy.. Great place to stay peaceful and friendly .loads to do and see

This was our third stay in this cottage in as many years - that says it all really! Lovely, very well presented and equipped and in a stunning location. Just perfect.

Superb from start to finish.. Fantastic location, wonderful walks and it was great to see such an abundance of wildlife. We'll be back.

If you want peace & quiet with stunning views then look no further than Red Chimneys. An extremely homely and comfortable cottage, it is very well equipped. Underfloor heating keeps the place nice and toasty. There is plenty of wildlife to be seen but you have to keep your eyes peeled. We saw dolphins, whales, an eagle and loads of smaller animals as well as a stag deer. The cottage is remote so be prepared to drive a lot if you go sightseeing and mind the roads, they are very narrow with passing places. Follow the directions on your booking confirmation, you will find the place even if it doesn't seem like it. I certainly recommend this place and a huge bonus is that it is pet friendly. We took our two dogs and they loved it!

A beautiful cottage in an exquisite location. It was great for exploring the island and was so quiet and peaceful for that perfect get away from it all holiday. The cottage was very well equipped with books, games and DVDs should the weather force an indoor day. We would highly recommend Red Chimneys Cottage and will be booking a return visit in the not too distant future.

The cottage was equipped to a very high standard. Despite being very lucky with the weather the underfloor heating was bliss! I just wish it had been a bit cooler in the evening so that we could light the wood burning stove. The view and surrounding area was the icing on the cake, just stunning. For the perfect get away from it all holiday in outstanding comfort then you will find it here.

We have just returned from a wonderful week at the Red Chimneys. This has to have been one of the best holidays we have had. The cottage is amazing and equipped to a high standard with everything you could ever need. The view has to be the icing on the cake sitting with a cuppa watching the sea, the birds and enjoying the peace makes for that special moment. Cannot recommend it highly enough! Will be back next year for 2 weeks as one isn't enough

We stayed at Red Chimneys for a week in early April. We'd booked the holiday as an anniversary gift for my parents for their 48th wedding anniversary. It was an 8 hour drive for us to get there but as soon as we arrived we forgot how tired we were when we saw the views from the cottage. Looking across loch Dunvegan towards the Claigan coral beach the view never got old. The cottage is clean and had everything we needed , a couple of tiny little suggestions would be more pegs for hanging washing out (there were only a few ) such a s name not to make the most of the fresh blustery air to dry clothes. And the upstairs bedroom lacked anywhere to hang clothes with the storage being drawers. These were just minor things thoug and certainly didn't impact our stay. Amenities are excellent, fridge freezer, dishwasher (we didn't use this) washer, tumble dryer , TV, DVD/ blue ray player , underfloor heating (our dog loved this) and the woodburner upstairs. The information folder mentioned the log basket would be filled with one lot of logs on arrival and the fire made up ready to light however the basket was empty and fire just full of ash. Fortunately we have a log burner at home so it wasn't a problem and we found logs in the store outside There's a great supply of books should you be unfortunate enough to have any rainy days (we had amazing weather with the only rain as we left ) and some cd's to listen to. Beds were comfortable and I slept like a log! Bathrooms were fine with brilliant water pressure for a nice hot shower. The bathroom downstairs which my parents used (they didn't have the en suite shower room) had a lovely big deep bath too. The field directly in front of the cottage has two very friendly pigs in and in the next field we were lucky end to see lambs being born. Plenty of other wildlife to be seen too, we saw a deer at dusk in the pigs field, barn owl, many Hawks and buzzards. We had a lovely relaxing stay and took the recommendations from previous guests in the guest book and visited the oldest bakery on Skye and Jans cakes both in dunvegan. All I can say is it's just as well we were so active during our stay! We had a great week and would definitely recommend this lovely quiet cottage with spectacular views.

Both location and cottage were lovely. The pigs at the bottom of the garden were the star attraction, very friendly.

We spent a delightful week at Red Chimneys. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed and more. It was a real home from home and the internet was great for two teenagers! The views were wonderful. We will definitely return.

The owner had thought carefully about the interior design of this beautiful property. It was gorgeous, very stylish and furnished to a high standard. We loved every day of our holiday. The owner was always ready to help if necessary and was very friendly. It was a very comfortable place to be, and had stunning views.

Really loved the location of this cottage which has been renovated furnished to a high standard. Everything about it was perfect. Exceptionally dog friendly and a pleasure to stay in. Great communication from the owner, we would definitely return.

We liked the isolated location, the wonderful views and the the character of the cottage. A great break on a wild but beautiful island.

The cottage had stunning views across Dunvegan Loch. Also within clear sight was Dunvegan castle the snow tipped Cuillin hills. The house had a traditional farm cottage look from outside appears to have been renovated, furnished decorated to a very high standard inside with all mod cons whilst still retaining some of it's authentic charm. The location on the west coast of Skye was also a perfect base to then further explore the other parts of the isle.

The cottage was warm, cosy and very well maintained by the owners. It was situated in a stunning, relaxed location yet Dunvegan (and other sightseeing locations) were easily accessible by car. Plus, pet friendly ++

This cottage has to be one of the best holiday cottages I have stayed in...ever! It has been upgraded to a high standard and made a perfect base for our holiday. The dogs loved the underfloor heating and we loved the wood burner! There was a telescope for watching the abundance of wildlife surrounding the cottage. The owners had thought of everything and had provided games, books, DVDs for rainy days as well as leaflets about local attractions to visit. It was the perfect spot for star gazing and we even managed to see the aurora borealis during our trip. We will be back again next year!

Arrived at the cottage just as it was going dark so our first impressions included a sensational sunset so we really got the Wow factor. Really lovely & secluded spot away from the towns, but close enough not to feel isolated. We loved the whole place. We have stayed at quite a few rentals over the years & this one stands out because of the attention to detail it has been given. Furnished to a high standard & all the little touches were much appreciated-plenty of towels, all basic kitchen needs, nice soap in the bathrooms & even Christmas decorations. Under floor heating & wood provided for the wood heater meant that even though the weather wasn't great, we were nice & toasty all the time. Highly recommended

It was just perfect.

The location of the property is fantastic, the views across to Dunvegan are great. Beautifully furnished throughout and the underfloor heating and log burner really do the job after a day's walking in November. Skye is beautiful and the hospitality given to us whilst there really made our holiday. Well worth the 12 hour drive. It was important to us that it was suitable for our dogs as well and the dog bowls being provided was a nice touch and made us feel that we weren't taking advantage by taking our dogs. They also loved the underfloor heating and log burner.

We were looking for peace and quiet and this cottage did not disappoint. The location is off the beaten track with a great view to enjoy. The log burner on an evening was also great.

Splendid property, high spec interior, wonderful position and views. And of course the good weather helped.

Position was great with amazing views. The standard of furnishing and equipment supplied was far greater than expected-quality was everywhere!! An extremely comfortable home from home.
