Pail End Self-Catering
Holiday home Pail End is a semi-detached cottage next to the owner's home in the Peak District cottage of Brassington. The cottage sleeps two people and has a double bedroom, a shower room and an open plan living area with a kitchen and a sitting room. Outside is off road parking and shared use of the owner's garden with outdoor furniture, however the garden is not enclosed. Close to Carsington Water and a host of walking and cycling trails, Pail End is a superb cottage for a couple to discover the magnificent Peak District National Park.
Accomodation Details One eaves double bedroom. Ground floor shower room with shower, basin and WC. Open plan living area with kitchen, dining area and sitting area.
Area Brassington is a tranquil, unspoiled conservation village on the outskirts of the Peak District National Park. Brassington has cottages dating back to the 17th and 18th Centuries and is a traditional limestone village. It has two public houses, both of which serve good food, and the bustling town of Matlock is just eight miles away for a wider range of shops and other amenities. Carsington Water is only two miles' distance and offers many outdoor pursuits such as sailing, boating, windsurfing and cycling.
Region The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.
My wife and I stayed at Pail End cottage for three nights in late April. The cottage is delightful, a perfect place for two people to chill out.
The accommodation is tastefully furnished and decorated. The kitchen is well equipped and the bedroom has two easy chairs and a table in the window - the perfect place to sit and take in the view overlooking the surrounding countryside.
Our hosts were so welcoming and spent time chatting with us.
The village of Brassington is both charming and quiet. We went to the Miners Arms pub, just minutes from the cottage and sat in the pub garden while we had our first pub drink since last October.
Brassington is a short drive from Matlock Bath and only a few miles from Carsington Water, both of which we visited.
I thoroughly recommend a stay at this cottage and we hope to visit it again one day.

It should be noted Richard (our host) made Pail End so covid-19 friendly which reassured us that our stay was as safe as possible.. We were both nervous with booking at this uncertain time but Richard gave us the reassurances we were hoping for, The accommodation met all of our expectations and will give us the confidence to book another stay away,

We had a weeks holiday here to see the new year in for 2020. What a find! Set in beautiful Brassington, an excellently appointed cosy cottage for two and our dog, Freddie. Pail End was immaculately clean and the welcome snacks were a nice touch. Richard and Kathy were excellent hosts and have a very good knowledge of the area. Beautiful walks withing yards of the property for all abilities. Suggest downloading the OutdoorGPS app and exploring the green dotted lines! A particular highlight was the circular route to Carsington Water, just outstanding. Spent New Years Eve in Ye Olde Gate Inn and was made to feel very welcome by the locals!

Excellent find in the beautiful village of Brassington.. We had a lovely relaxing week here in this perfectly appointed cosy cottage, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Richard and Kathy were excellent hosts and very knowledgeable about the area. There are countless exceptional walks for all abilities within a very short distance from the cottage. a Highlight was the walk to Carsington Water and back in a circular route. Suggest downloading the 'outdoors GPS' app and follow the green dotted lines! Both pubs are very good and extremely welcoming. Spent New Years Eve at Ye Olde Gate Inn and had a great time getting to know the locals. Thanks again Richard and Kathy, we'll see you again soon!

The cottage is nicely decorated and was very festive for Christmas, the owners left mince pies which was a nice touch.. However my husband is six foot and I have a temporary back problem and we didn't find the very small sofa comfortable. It would also have been nice to have at least one easy chair. The dressing table was badly lit and the stool very uncomfortable, also one of the basket chairs was very small. The wooden stairs are very easy to slip on as were the mats in the bedroom. It would probably be a good idea to point out that there are steps up from the parking area and it's not really suitable for anyone with a disability and the step down into the kitchen is very high it couldd do with another one to make access easier.

Real selling point is the excellent near by olde gate pub.. Dog friendly, excellent food and beer.
Could do with a new mattress in the bedroom. Other than that excellent cottage in an excellent location

September 2019
The cottage was extremely comfortable and well equipped.. It has been very tastefully converted from what I assume was a barn and is a listed building and Is small but ideal for two people and a dog. The village of Brassington is charming with stone built houses full of character and the two pubs both of which serve good food and welcome dogs. The surrounding area is beautiful with lots to see and do but if you come from an area which has few hills as I do the steep hills and hairpin bends come as a bit of a shock. Unfortunately the weather was poor for us but we enjoyed the break and can thoroughly recommend the cottage and the surrounding area.

This was a lovely cosy cottage, very clean.. There were 2 pubs a few minutes up the road, both of which do food. Carsington Water, not far away. The owner left us milk in the fridge & 4 lovely biscuits, which was a lovely gesture. Definitely recommend

April 2019
This cottage really is a little gem and kept to the highest standards.. The location is idyllic, including the view from the bedroom window, and the owner Richard was both knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions of where to visit. If there was a slight criticism it would be the mattress wasn't that comfortable but we still managed a good night's sleep. I would recommend both this cottage and the area as a superb place for a break (btw food at the Old Gate pub is good but expensive)

Faboulous little cottage tucked away in a lovely village, with Matlock Bath or Ashbourne a short drive away.. Beautiful walks surround you. The cottage was exceptionally clean and well presented perfect for two and a dog. Bed was really comfy and the views are stunning, really enjoyed my morning cup of tea sat watching the world go by. Owners live next door, very welcoming and always at hand if ever needed. Two excellent pubs in walking distance, locals are so friendly and inviting. Highly recommend.

Pail End is a lovely clean cottage and ideally situated especially for the two pubs which both do meals and are dog friendly..

December 2018
It is in an excellent location, quiet village with some amazing pubs.. The cottage itself is very charming and has all the essentials. It is very clean and right at the heart of the village. The only thing I could suggest as an improvement is perhaps a bigger television as the current one is way too small, especially on winter nights if you want to watch movies and the sofa can just about fit two people.

September 2016
A private, quiet, relaxing, get away from it all.. The owners "left us to it " but helped straight away as soon as we needed them. The village is unspoilt and traditional.
It was peaceful away from the crowds of Bakewell etc, (15mins).
Small, but very well desighned and equipped. I love that they don't charge for dogs at all, and we had two.
I think it is a rip off in this day and age when some places claim to be dog friendly but charge up to £20 per week per dog.
The only down side was we couldn't work out how to turn the electric fire on. We could have asked.
Many thanks, would love to book again next year!
