Feel like a laird or a lady in this beautiful period home in Inverness. You’re in a quiet residential area, but it’s only a ten-minute walk to restaurants serving neeps and tatties and pubs buzzing with folk music in the city centre. The living room, with its big bay window, corniced high ceiling and original fireplace feels like an 18th-century drawing room made modern. A wall of gilded mirror, sparkling candelabra and book-filled wall presses add a quirky yet regal touch to the dining room and the sleek kitchen is a vision in midnight blue. Some of the bedrooms retain their original fireplaces too and the master is flooded with natural light from the bay window. At the back of the house, you’ll find you’re own secret garden with a picnic table on the patio for outdoor dining, cure rockeries and flowerbeds bursting with lavender, and a comfy seating area under the wooden pergola.

*The host can provide a high chair and cot for infants, just ask
*All of the bedrooms and bathrooms are upstairs, so the whole house may not be suitable for those with very limited mobility
*Well behaved dogs are welcome but they must stay on the ground floor and off the furnishings
