Board games, books and a library of DVDs will stave off boredom on rainy days while summer sunshine calls for alfresco meals in the garden – Bamburgh Castle, of course, as your backdrop.

As for location, you can't get much better. Front Street is mere moments from your doorstep, with a bevvy of shops, pubs and restaurants to discover. 500 yards away lies the beach, where you can sprawl out on the golden sand and dip your toes in the waves. Whether you're after oceanfront walks and countryside cycling or rounds of golf and spots of birdwatching, there's something for everyone on the Northumberland coast.
