We have stayed at Barr Cottage so we knew exactly what to expect.. It is a fantastic cottage with everything you could require for a comfortable holiday. The garden terrace is very pleasant and again there is everything you need for your comfort. The cottage layout is a little unusual with the kitchen being upstairs but it suited us particularly after coming down from the garden terrace to cook a meal etc. Would definitely return to Tideswell and Barr Cottage again at some point in the future.

I would recommend Barr Cottage for a stay. The cottage is warm, cosy with all the facilities you need. The village is quiet. The landlord at the Star pub gave us a very friendly welcome with excellent food on Thursdays to Sundays. The village is ideal place to visit all the attractions. We will come again!

This is a beautiful Cottage and it is quiet, clean and comfortable. The setting is perfect to visit surrounding areas. Great for walkers or to relax. It is a perfect getaway with a fantastic pub within walking distance. We frequented The Star Inn. This is in walking distance and the food was excellent every evening. It is children and dog friendly. Please book as it is only small and the chef we had was amazing. The drink including Ale if you are an Ale drinker was quality. We also popped into The George. The Manager is welcoming but we only had a quick drink. We had a long weekend which was a welcome break. I am grateful to the Barr cottage owners for their quant comfortable cottage which has a bidet and Fantastic WiFi a must when you have children. I would definitely go back but they are already booked up. I want to go back to the comfy beds and clean everything. Thank you.

Wonderful place to stay after a 12 week lockdown The Coach House was great, comfortable, very well decorated with everything we needed.. The added extras were unexpected sugar, tea, coffee, bread, butter, milk, home made chutney and Roger had left a homemade lemon drizzle cake (which was delicious). Roger was a true gentleman always there if you needed help but not intrusive. Brian and June July 2020

Definitely the best cottage we have stayed in on our travels, it was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed and more. In walking distance of cafes and pubs and is a fantastic base to explore the peaks. Hopefully we will be returning as unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side during our stay! Great excuse to return. Thank you for a lovely stay.

December 2018
Barr Cottage is a reasonably priced cottage that exceeded our expectation.. The decor is spot on, and it is clean. We felt like at home as soon as we step in. The rear garden has two levels is practical, sun patio at the high level overseeing the dale is a pleasant surprise. Tideswell is quiet and has all the necessary amenities. It is almost at the middle of the national park, therefore, a perfect base for exploration. I would recommend the cottage to anyone.

October 2018
I loved my stay at Barr cottage, the photos do not do it justice.. The cottage was cosy, spotlessly clean, well equipped and perfectly located. The village has everything you need and is only 5 mins walk away to all the shops. The owners of the cottage sent a very informative email prior to arrival which was very helpful. I was a little anxious about the parking situation prior to the stay but parking on the road directly outside the cottage was actually no problem at all, it was a fairly quiet road and the space was always free. A couple of highlights of my stay were the view from the top of the garden and waking up to see sheep outside your bedroom window. I will definitely stay again.

August 2018
Perfect location.. Five minutes walk to charming little village. Take in the views of Tideswell village from above by ascending the rear garden steps, and enjoy refreshments while relaxing in the comfortable furniture. If it drops cold you can light the chimenea to make the alfresco dining last in to the night. Would highly recommend this cottage .

February 2018
We’ve stayed in cottages before in the Peak District and Lake District.. What made this cottage stand out was the attention to detail. Tea, coffee, milk, biscuits and wine we’re waiting for us on arrival - the essentials you need after a long journey. Small things like excellent WiFi, sharp chopping knives, kids cups and toys/games available made a difference to our stay. The cottage and location were great. Definitely would book again.
Mrs Shepherd
February 2018
Photos don't do the cottage justice.. It's beautifully kept. The owners welcome email (received 5 days before holiday) was exactly what we needed, with all the information we would want. Sykes has been great too, easy to use and not too OTT on communication. The online holiday portal thing is helpful once passwords are set up.

After 15 years of holidaying throughout the UK we have peaked in the Peak District with Barr Cottage! For our couple the set up was perfect : a very comfortable bedroom, a practical kitchen, a cosy fireplace corner to end the evenings and a gorgeous terrace above the cottage to wile away the end of the day with a glass of wine, kindly provided by the owners. This is the best cottage we have stayed in, both for the fittings and for the location, within walking distance of the family friendly George Inn (we went three times, including for some Shakespeare) and the perfect Merchant’s Yard. Central to the best trails : Mam Tor, Peter’s Stone, etc. Bravo to the owners.
Mrs Tapsell
September 2017
Lovely cottage.. Even with two young children we managed with the aid of a stair gate; a second stairgate would be useful at the bottom of the stairs too however. Clean and comfortable and the kids loved the upstairs kitchen. Great location and lovely welcome gifts left by host. Would definatley consider this property next time we visit the peaks!

August 2017
We loved the cottage! It was well located in the Peak District for all sorts of activities but we also loved coming home to our home away from home. The owners left various folders and leaflets for the tenants to find nice walks and other features. There is a co-op in the village in walking distance. The road outside is nice and quiet. We felt very welcome.

April 2017
The cottage is well appointed and conveniently situated close to the village amenities, pubs, general store, bakery, greengrocer and butcher to name but a few. Comfortable and cosy with everything you need for an enjoyable holiday. We were so impressed we are staying again this year!
Ms Van Assendelft, August 2017
April 2017
Barr Cottage is a lovely welcoming, cosy cottage.. The owners had left us wine, biscuits, tea, coffee and milk which was very much appreciated. The cottage was better than the photos, quality furniture, spotlessly clean, big fluffy towels, comfy bed and the unforgettable flamingo bathroom. If I were to be very critical I would prefer a dishwasher to a washing machine, but that is maybe a personal preference. The garden is an unusual feature, with very steep steps to a patio overlooking the roofs of Tideswell. Whilst there is no designated parking, this was no problem as we parked outside the front door easily. The cottage is in a great location, a few minutes walk away from shops, pubs, we recommend the Horse and Jockey, and the central location makes an easy drive to almost anywhere in the Peak district. We would definitely stay here again.

A truly lovely cottage, all anyone could possibly need and more.. Very peaceful, sheep out in front and an outdoor seating area at the top of a flight of steep steps,so not an area for the very young or unfit! We could not fault it.

August 2016
The cottage was ideal, excellent location with everything you could need.. The garden was very unusual (lots of steps) with great views. The only negative things were the DVD player didn't work and the trees out the front are so big now they block out most of the view and make the living room very dark
